Traditional Chinese Medicine Cancer Support & Recovery

Getting a diagnosis of cancer can be one of the most difficult challenges that a person can face in their lifetime. Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture and herbal medicine can offer great support in this area, and does so by supporting the body before, during, and post cancer treatment.  Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery can often be very difficult for a person to tolerate. Side effects are common and can be very difficult on a person both physically and psychologically, and in some cases, prevent them from being able to continue their conventional cancer treatment. There are two areas Traditional Chinese Medicine can offer in cancer support for a person going through their cancer treatment.

Support

A person who is receiving treatment for cancer may experience side effects that affect quality of life such as disruptions in sleep patterns, complications to body systems or infections as a few examples. These may happen as a result of conventional cancer treatment. Traditional Chinese Medicine including acupuncture and possibly herbal medicine can help alleviate some of the side effects a person may develop from cancer or it’s conventional treatments. Another common side effect of conventional cancer treatments is a weakened immune system. This in turn can cause even further complications. Supporting the body throughout the treatments will be of utmost importance. This support will help a person complete the conventional treatment course set out for them.

Recovery

This is an area that Traditional Chinese Medicine can be of great help to a patient. As discussed on the health maintenance page, the focus here is recovery from illness. Cancer is very complex and is usually involved in several physiological processes of the body. When a patient is in the remission stage they want to do everything possible to stay in remission. Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies along with lifestyle and dietary changes can make a great impact on this.
